Coimbatore, the crown jewel of Kongunadu and one of the fastest growing commercial cities in India successfully created abundant employment opportunities to the urban side of the district in the early 1970s. In a time when the world was revolving with revolutions in various fields such as Medicine, Arts, Agriculture, Commerce, Science and Technology; one field – Education required a great push and a greater one especially in our beloved Coimbatore.
“If the poor boy cannot come to education, education must go to him.”
Few pioneers and visionaries like our founders (Late) Thiru. V.K. Lakshmanan and Dr.M.Aruchami who held that principle of Swami Vivekananda in their hearts were firmly determined to bring quality education to the poor and that is how the dream and desire to start a college began to turn into a reality. How it all began cannot be stated a chance encounter or a coincidence but can be only called as the act of Divine Providence.
When the Tudiyalur Cooperative Agricultural Services Limited - TUCAS organized an event to celebrate Saraswathi Pooja on 16 October, 1972, eminent men from the city took part in the celebrations. Saraswati – The Goddess of Knowledge and Wisdom is worshipped during this celebrations and she had blessed that day abundantly. (Late) Thiru. V.K. Lakshmanan, M.Sc., (Ex-MLA), a progressive agriculturist and public worker and Dr.M.Aruchami, M.Sc., BT., Ph.D., FAZ., FRES (Lond), the present President of our College Council and Committee participated in that event and both of them expressed their long cherished desire to start a College which was immediately welcomed and endorsed by (Late) Thiru. T.N. Palanisamy,M.A., IC (Dip) USA, the then President of the Tudiyalur Cooperative Agricultural Service.
The eminent Doctor (Late) N.S. Palaniappan, MBBS., DLO., who had a similar idea to start a college on behalf of Anna Memorial Committee in Coimbatore provided active support to this Mission. Well educated and esteemed personalities like (Late) Thiru.N.Kumaraswamy, (Late) Thiru.K.P.Muthuswamy, M.A., Thiru.V.S.Chinnaswami Gounder, (Late) Thiru.S.R.Rathnaswami Gounder, (Late) Thiru.R.Ramasamy, Texmo Industries, (Late) Thiru. M.Subbiah Gounder, (Late) Thiru.C.S.Ramachandran B.A., (Late) Er.K.M.Elangovan, B.E., and the present active member of the College Council and Committee, Er.R.Somasundaram B.E.,FIE., contributed their might in establishing this Higher Education Institution.
With a magnanimous donation of about Rs.75,000 from Tudiyalur Cooperative Agricultural Services Limited that included the dividend of 16,000 farmers and from other generous donations from the agricultural community and philanthropists of Kongunadu , the dream came true on 12th August 1973, the day on which Kongunadu Arts and Science College came into existence.
Started in the year 1973 with a humble beginning in a green & clean environment, the college has grown magnificently in academic stature with autonomous status that includes 12 Research Departments, 14 PG Departments and 20 UG Departments. The college is imparting higher education to approximately 4000 students, majority of whom hail from socially and economically weaker sections of the society. We at Kongunadu Arts and Science College believe that affordability should not be the barrier to Quality Education to anyone and we have successfully upheld Equality in distribution of education since our inception. Besides being the bridge that connects the unreached, we are happy to state that more than 50% of the students studying in the college are girls and making us play a pivotal role in women empowerment and social justice.
Dr.M.Aruchami, one of the founders of the College, the first Principal, former Secretary and the present President, a dedicated educationist with his sharp academic acumen, futuristic vision, transparent and able leadership has guided this Institution to its present state of honor and glory.
Er.R.Somasundaram B.E.,FIE., a man of strong and clear convictions endowed with keen sense of imagination and dedication presently serves as a Member in the College Council and the College Committee and guides the institution on the right path.

With her brimming energy, broader vision and sheer strength, she has already brought various laurels and accolades in academics to this institution and has made it her mission to take it to newer heights and to the greater phases in academic excellence.
