MUSHROOM CULTIVATION AND SPAWN PRODUCTION-Report

UG and PG Department of Biochemistry and PG and Research Department of Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore jointly organized Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) Coimbatore chapter sponsored One day workshop on “Mushroom Cultivation and Spawn Production” at the college premises on 6.09.2018. Dr. J. Karthikeyan, Associate Professor and Head, PG and Research Department of Biochemistry, KASC welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Amsaveni, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology highlighted the theme of the workshop. Principal of the college Dr. V. Balasubramaniam presided over the function.           Dr. S. Paulsamy, Dean R & D, KASCfelicitated the gathering. Vote of thanks was proposed byDr. G. Anbarasi, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology.

 The lecture on “An overview on cultivation technology of Oyster, milky and paddy straw mushroom” was given by Dr. S. Krishnakumari, Associate Professor in Biochemistry.  Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology, KASC gave a lecture on “Spawn production”. A lecture on“Medicinal value of mushrooms” by Dr. M. Kalaiselvi, Assistant Professor in Biochemistry. The participants were demonstrated with the various cultivation technology of different mushrooms and stages of spawn production by        Dr. S. Kathiravan, Assistant Professor (Biochemistry), KASC and Mr. M. Karthik, Ph.D., Research Scholar (Biochemistry), KASC, Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari, Assistant Professor & Head (Biotechnology). The participants had hands-on training on the above technologies. About 150 participants including Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members from various institutions and host institution have been benefited by this workshop. Dr. S. Krishnakumari - Associate Professor in Biochemistry, Dr. S. Kathiravan - Assistant Professor in Biochemistry, Dr. M. Nithya Devi - Associate Professor in Biochemistry, Dr. R. Amsaveni and Dr. G. Anbarasi Assistant Professors in Biotechnology organized this workshop.
