The DBT initiated and launched the 'Star College Scheme' for improving logical, critical and innovative thinking and to improve and inculcate 'hands on' experimental experience with modern approaches towards technology development needed for modern biological studies at undergraduate (college) level in life sciences.
The DBT-STAR college scheme provided a way for tremendous improvement for boosting the importance of basic sciences among the young minds thereby improving the quality education in the institution with facilitating the laboratory with modern equipments and to purchase chemicals and glasswares to enhance the practical skills. Four Departments of the institution, namely Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany and Zoology have been selected under the STAR College Scheme of DBT and initiated from 2012 onwards.

Students: Enriching and enhancing the scientific Excitement, Awareness, Involvement and Progression towards Research by organizing various field trips, industrial and institutional visits, guest talks, workshops, hands on training, summer schools, and with introduction of new practical to help students to gain first-hand experience of advances in Science, Skill enhancement and progression to higher studies.
Faculty: Equipping and developing new platform as well as transforming the Level of teaching, vision towards Life Sciences and increased research aptitude. Development of ICT based teaching – learning content for the students, Putting Academic expertise to Hands on training in form of workshops, FDPs, curriculum enrichment, involvement with students and collaborative activities with other departments and neighboring colleges.
Physical Resources: Procurement of instruments like Microscopes, Dry Heat Bath, Weighing balance, Colorimeter, Handy pH meter and bench pH meter, -20oC freezer, Micro pipettes and semi-autoanalyzer, etc., Enrichment in library resources in form of Books, Manuals and journals.
Interdisciplinary Approach: Intensification in interdisciplinary approach with other departments of institute for small research projects, expert lectures, visits, Training and awareness programmes.
Holistic Development: Augmentation in teaching, learning and hands on training for faculty and students, Presentation and Communication Skills, Writing, Reading and Comprehensive Skills of reviewing scientific articles, instrument maintenance and Research Publications by students and staff.
