Seminar and Lecture: 2025-2026

1. International Guest Lecture on “Application of AI in Bioscience” on 17th February 2026. The chief guest, Dr. Arie Huibrecht van der Lugt from Maastricht University, Netherlands, delivered an insightful and engaging lecture. He explained the role of artificial intelligence in modern bioscience research, including its applications in bioinformatics, environmental monitoring, and biodiversity conservation. The guest lecture was highly beneficial in fostering interdisciplinary learning and enhancing awareness about the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in Bioscience research and applications. The programme was well received by students and faculty, marking a significant academic initiative by the collaborating departments.

2. Intercollegiate Competitions on Digital Wildlife on 13th February 2026. The selected events are, short film and photography. Participants were presented both individual and group images depicting nature and wildlife. The students from various departments and other colleges participated in the program about 48 students participated.

3. Special lecture on Darwin Day celebration on 12th February 2026 delivered by Dr. M.  Mahendran, Senior Scientist of Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore. He emphasized Darwin’s theory and recent advancements in biological research.

4. Inauguration of Guest Lecture Series on Wildlife Management in association with Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Coimbatore on 15th September 2025 by Dr. P. Promod, Senior Principal Scientist SACON. The event marked an important initiative to enhance knowledge and awareness among students and wildlife enthusiasts about contemporary practices in wildlife conservation and management. He emphasized the significance of scientific research, community involvement in ensuring sustainable wildlife management and job opportunities in the field of wildlife. The session was attended by faculty members, students, and researchers, fostering an interactive environment for discussion and learning.

5. Organized meeting with Joint Forum of NGOs (JFN), Coimbatore on 06.07.2025 to address Man-Animal Conflict in connection with recent Valparai Leopard Attack. The meeting was convened in light of the recent leopard attack in Valparai, with an aim to discuss practical, community-based recommendations to address human-wildlife conflict. 


Seminar and Lecture: 2024-2025

1. National Symposium on “The Western Ghats – Biodiversity Conservation and Management of Ecosystems” on March 6th and 7th, 2025, in collaboration with the Zoological Society of India.  The Department of Wildlife Biology got 56 abstracts out of the symposium's total of 303 abstracts.

2. Awareness Programme of Nilgiri Tahr conservation “Message on Wheels” organized jointly with Project Nilgiri Tahr, Tamil Nadu State Forest Department on 18.02.2025.

 

3. An eight-day programme for Monitoring of Tigers, Co-predators, Prey and their habitat –Phase IV Monitoring and population estimation in Coimbatore Forest Division was organized for science students of various discipline both UG and PG students. Date between 2nd and 7th January, 2025.

 

4. Birders meet on 22.12.2024 were organized for NGOs of Coimbatore, 16 organizations were participated in the event at KASC. 

5. Seminar on conservation of Asian elephant and Nilgiri Tahr in commemoration with World Environment Day and World Elephant Day was organized jointly with Nilgiri Tahr Project, Tamil Nadu State Forest Department with the assistance of KASC – IIC on 12.08.2024. This will facilitate to promote the Wildlife Biology course.

 



Seminar and Lecture: 2023-2024

1. Organized a Hands-on Training on “GIS in Wildlife Conservation” with a support of Indian Science Congress Association, Coimbatore Chapter in the occasion of “International Day of Forests” on 21st March, 2024

 

2. Organized “World Sparrow Day” on 20thMarch, 2024 at the Department of Computer Science, KASC. Thiru M. Ananth, Founder President of NEST-NGO, Environmental Journalist, and Independent Filmmaker, served as the resource person. 

 

3. The Wildlife Biology students along with other departments participated the world wetland day in collaboration with Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Anaikatty, Coimbatore on 2nd February 2024 at Kumaraswamy lake in Coimbatore.

 

4. “Recent Scenario on Wildlife Conservation with the support of Indian Science Congress Association, Coimbatore Chapter. As a part of Wildlife Week Celebration on 16.10.2023 at KASC. The Chief Guest Shri. S. Ramasubramanian, IFS, Field Director and Conservator of Forests was delivered a special lecture.
