Awareness Program on “Cyber Hygiene and Security Awareness”

The Department of Computer Science (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized an Awareness Programme on “Cyber Hygiene and Security Awareness” on 1st August 2025 under the DBT STAR College Scheme. The session was conducted from 11.00 AM and was attended by enthusiastic students and faculty members from the department.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. A. Kavitha, HoD, Department of Computer Science who emphasized the critical importance of cybersecurity in today’s digitally connected world. The speaker compared cyber hygiene to personal hygiene, stressing that just as we protect our physical health, we must also protect our digital identity and data.

The key objectives of the programme were to raise awareness about cyber threats such as phishing, malware, and identity theft, and to promote good cyber hygiene practices such as using strong passwords, updating software regularly, and avoiding suspicious links. The session aimed to instil responsible digital behaviour among students, professionals, and general internet users while also introducing participants to relevant cybersecurity laws and reporting mechanisms.

The programme featured expert talks from cybersecurity professionals who explained common threats and shared real-life examples to demonstrate the importance of being vigilant online. Live demonstrations were conducted to show how phishing attacks occur and how weak passwords can be easily compromised. Hands-on workshops enabled participants to learn about firewall settings, two-factor authentication, and antivirus tools
