UG - Part I Tamil

Eligibility :

All UG Students

Duration : 1 Year & 2 Years

Strength : Nill

Educational Objectives :

  • To create the finest platform for displaying the linguistic and Literary Talents of the students.
  • Develop communication skills among the students and develop creativity in language make him/her a good human through value based Education.
  • To motivate the Students to lead successful life by using application oriented functional Tamil.
  • To motivate the Students to good citizen with leadership quality.

  • சங்க இலக்கியம் முதல் தற்கால இலக்கியம் வரை பாடத்திட்டத்தில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளதால் தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தின் மொத்த பரப்பையும் படிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு.
  • இக்கால இலக்கியங்களின் தோற்றுவாயை அறிந்துகொண்டு படைப்புகளைப் படைக்க ஊக்குவித்தல்.
  • சுற்றுச்சூழல் விழிப்புணா்வை ஏற்படுத்துதல்.
  • சமகால வாழ்வியல் சிக்கல்களை எதிர்கொள்வதற்கான வழிமுறைகளை அறிதல்.
  • கொங்குநாட்டு சான்றோர்களின் வரலாற்றினை அறிமுகப்படுத்துதல்.
  • ஆட்சிப்பணித்தமிழ் பாடத்தின் வாயிலாக குடிமைப்பணிக்குத் தயார்படுத்துதல்.
  • கணிப்பொறி அறிவினைத் தமிழ்மொழி அறிவுடன் இணைக்கும் முயற்சியை அறிமுகப்படுத்துதல்.

Program Outcomes

  • The Syllabus is framed according to the current scenario.
  • The Curriculum traces the social reforms through literature and create  awareness on ecological issues. 
  • Exposure to moral values and ethics followed worldwide through the  medium of most ancient language Tamil.
  • Successful completion of the program results in the error free usage of the  language both in speaking and writing
  • Introduction to the linguistic, cultural and historical background of all  genres of Tamil literature so as to explore the background of each literary  form.
  • Training in basic communication skills such as writing official/ formal  letters is given in addition to translation.
  • Enhancement of creativity among students in the area of Short story,  Novel, Drama and Prose by interactive session with living authors of  contemporary literature.
  • Equipped students to gain variety of opportunities in the field of Teaching,  Translation, Journalism, Massmedia, Tourism, etc.,
M.Phil Tamil

Eligibility :

  • M.A. Tamil with 55% marks

Duration : 

  • Full Time - 1 Year
  • Part Time - 2 Years

Ph.D Tamil

  • M.A. Tamil with 55% Marks or M.Phil

M.A Tamil

Eligibility :

A candidate who have passed UG degree examination with Part I Tamil 

Duration : 2 Years

Educational Objectives :

The MA Tamil Literature program describe accomplishments that graduates are expected to attain within five to seven years after graduation

From the skills imparted/learned/acquired

  • The students will elevate themselves as job providers/entrepreneurs
  • They will hold positions in school education / higher education sectors
  • They will decorate the positions as leading scientists at R&D institutions.
  • Pursue their higher studies (Doctoral / Post-Doctoral) at leading institutions across the globe
  • They will undertake positions in the Public/ Administrative services

  • After the successful completion of MA Tamil Literatur program, the students are expected to have skills like Teacher and Profeessor

Eligibility :

M.Phil and PhD research programmes in Tamil were introduced in the academic year 1987 and showing a remarkable progress over the years. The Department is well equipped with the state-of-the-art research facilities to strive for excellence in research and extension activities and furnished with computers & related aids for research scholars and staff members.

  • Epic Literature
  • South Asian Studies
  • Devotional Literature
  • Modern Literature
  • Folklore and Tribal lore

We carry out research based on the needs of our society and benefiting the same. The Department has received various Major and Minor research projects from number of funding agencies on various aspects of our research area.

Program Outcomes

The members of staff have participated, presented and published papers and research articles on current topics in various Seminars, Workshops and Conferences both at the State National and International Levels. As of today, the Department staff have published more than 10 books and are further involved in publishing more and continue to be subject experts, Resource Persons at the College Level.
