Vision

To make students understand the diversity, Habitat and functioning of animals in order to conserve the environment and promoting the new biology and its cutting – edge - Technology.

Mission

Broadcasting knowledge in Animal Sciences through innovative teaching and learning and also to make awareness about problems affecting Animal and Human health and world challenging environmental issues.

Genesis

In 1973, the Department of Zoology was established as one of the premier Department in our college by our Distingushed President Dr. M. Aruchami. In the Academic year 1974-75, B.Sc., in Zoology and in the year 1981-82 M.Sc., Zoology was started as Government Aided course. M.Phil and Ph.D was established in the Academic year 1982-1983. In the year 2018-19, Diploma in Apiculture and in the year 2019-2020, Diploma in Ornamental Fish Production and Trade was started. In the academic year 2020-2021, Diploma in Wildlife Biology, Diploma in Immunotechnology, Certificate course in Vermitechnology were started.  Zoology is one of the promising and thrust area in Science and Technology.

Salient Features
  • The Department of Zoology is a basic Science Academic and Research Department in the Kongunadu Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore.  This Department is devoted to make students understand the diversity, habit and functioning of animals inorder to conserve the ecosystem and promoting the new biology and its cutting-edge-technology. At present, the Department has a dedicated team of highly experiences 13 faculty members with diversified research expertise. In addition to the regular academic programmes, our students are also offered Job oriented courses namely, Commercial fish culture, Nutrition and Dietetics, Ecotourism, Economic Zoology, Animal husbandry. The students are equipped with theoritical and practical knowledge through entrepreurship skill development courses such as Ornamental Fish Production and trade, sericulture, aquaculture, beekeeping, vermicomposting and to develop their own industrial units and to become an extrepreneurs. Skills gained through this programme will be highly helpful to deisgn the different health strategies for the social welfare. 
  • At the National level, the Government of India opulently supports the department through various schemes like DST-FIST, DBT STAR college, College of Potential of Excellence and College of Excellence with the total funding of Rs. 37,38,662. Apart from these, our faculty members have also obtained extramural funding from DST, DBT, UGC, TNSCST with the total amount of Rs.96,93,770. 
  • Five of our faculty members have international training by availing  of post-doctoral fellowships. Two of our faculty members have received UGC Research awardee and one faculty have received DST Women scientiest award. our faculty members have recieved various awards on recognition of their achivements in research. Two of our faculty member qualified CSIR-NET and SET.
  • Around 15 students have got qualified CSIR – JRF - NET,  SLET and SET Examinations. Our Department is also offering special coaching class for the CSIR-JRF-NET-Life Sciences. 
  • Many of our students had been to the various national and state University and colleges for their higher studies and also placed in the Academic Institution, Industry and few students became an entrepreneurs.

Milestones
  • The Department of Zoology, KASC was the prime Department in the college  established in the year 1973 to meet the demands and needs of higher education in the field of Zoology and to educate the rural people in and around Coimbatore, Tamil nadu.
  • Dr. M. Aruchami was the first head of the Department who served the Department up to 1994
  • A big achievement and the landmark in the Department was the Sericulture course blue print was prepared in the year 1978 and introduced to the B.Sc., Zoology
  • In the year 1991-92, Dr. M. Aruchami established collaboration with J.Kelly, Research Physiologist, Insect Neurobiology and Hormone Laboratory, Plant Science Institute, Beltsville, USA.
  • In the same year, collaborative discussion was made by Dr. M. Aruchami with Dr. M. Sugumaran, Prof and Head, Department of Biological sciences, Massachusetts University on the Importance of Current research on the possible as of insect pest management
  • Dr. M. Aruchami made research discussion with Dr. A. B. Borkovec, Research Leader, Beltsville Agricultural Research Centre, Maryland and USA.
  • The Zoology Department was established in 1973-74 and Sericulture course blue print was prepared in 1978 in order to widen this field.
  • In the year 1978-1979 the Sericulture was added in one among the subject for UG Zoology major and Allied Course for 1st year UG Botany students in both theory and practical.
  • At Amherst campus, Massachusetts University, Our President Dr.M. Aruchami  and Chinyin exchange their thoughts regarding International Scientists Exchange Programme between Kongunadu  Arts and Science College and  Massachusetts University,  USA. (1991-1992).
  • In the early years of its inception, the Department of Zoology offered Sericultre and Entomology as the branch in which students could specialize and Dr. M. Aruchami was the initiator and promoter of this specialization. 
  • Gradually, the Department modernized its curriculum with the addition of new subjects like Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics and Research methodology, Vermitechnology, Aquaculture, Pest management, Bioinstrumentation, Endocrinology, Animal parasitology, Human anatomy.
