Department of Computer Science (UnAided) - About the Department

The Department of Computer Science was established in the year 1988 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Computer Science and strives to shape outstanding computer professionals. The Department has modern facilities for teaching, learning and research. The Department offers a wide range of research opportunities and programs of study at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The training imparted aims to prepare young minds for the challenging opportunities in the IT industry with a global awareness supported by experts in the field of Computer Science.

M.Sc. Computer Science programme was started in the year 2012 with the aim to develop core competence in Computer Science and prepare the students to carry out development work, as well as take up challenges in research. Besides these, as an added feather, the Department has evolved as Research Department by offering Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science with the aim of producing quality researchers and high-impact interdisciplinary research.

The department has a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate and research education. Ours is the vibrant department and has over 200 students and 10 dedicated staff members.

Objectives of the Department

• To create and disseminate knowledge to master the students on the latest technologies by imparting the technical skills to meet industrial needs.
• To promote anytime, anywhere learning through ICT methods.
• To enhance supplement teaching through Industry/Institution interactions by conducting seminars, Hands-on training, Guest lectures, and Workshops.
• To promote research by setting up specialized laboratories and collaborating with Universities and Interns at the National level.
• To impart outreach programs under NSS and NCC activities.

Achievements

• Students of Final Year BSc Computer Science (Unaided) with the name of “Kazza Conquerors Red” got the First Position and Cash Prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (One Lakh) each in “Grand Finale – 2022” of Smart India Hackathon (Software Edition) conducted at their nodal centers IIT Kanpur (U.P.) respectively on 25th & 26th August 2022.
• Traditional India presents BEST CINEMATOGRAPHER – 2019 - VIGNESH 171SC003.
• 2020 ULAVAN AWARD Mr. S. Manikandan Awarded by Actor KARTHICK RS.50,000 & his article published in VIKATAN magazine in 2021 He is appointed as co-ordinator.

An additional section of Computer Science was introduced in the year 1999 with an intake of 40 students and currently the strength is 60. Total number of staff members for Computer Science is 10. Currently there are 175 students in the department. The department has an excellent laboratory with 60 high configuration machines. The Department of Computer Science has played a significant role in nurturing computer education in the region. Over the years, the department was started during the academic year 2012-2013 with an intake of 45 students in MSc Computer Science course.

A Well-equipped lab with high speed internet facility and un-interrupted Power Supply. A good library consisting of books in various streams, journals, magazines, e-tutorials as CDs, Question Booklets and various project reports for student’s reference. Students are encouraged to attend Industrial Visits to update their Industrial Knowledge. Faculty members are encouraged to attend various Faculty Development programme, Conferences and Workshops to enrich their knowledge. PTA of the department is well functioning for filling the gap between parents and teachers. Alumni Association of the department is functioning well and maintaining contact with all the students. Choice Based Credit System is adopted in the department for the students to take their own subjects to study in the department on their choice. Tutor-Ward System is functioning in the Department to take individual care of the students. Special coaching is conducted in the department for both Slow and fast Learners. Bridge Course is conducted for non-computer science in the beginning of the course Conducting Common Assessment Test for the first year students. Guided library hour is provided to improve the skills of the students.

The Faculty members of the department carry out research in many thrust areas which includes Data Mining, Computer Networking, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, etc.,    

Department had reached the level of Star College Status.
