PAPYRUS - Reading and Drama Club and the Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College conducts a National Level Workshop on "Storytelling: The First Steps" at 11:00AM dated 20th February 2023 (Monday) and the venue is at G5 within the college campus. The chief guest Mr. Vikram Sridhar, Performance Storyteller and Theatre Practitioner grace the workshop's proceedings presided by the principal, Dr. M. Lekshmanaswamy.

The Departments of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College and Vivekananda College, Kanyakumari has organized a Two-Day International Online Conference on “Emerging Ideologies and Trends in English Language, Literature and Cultural Studies” on 28 and 29 March 2022.

Year: 2021

The Department of English both Aided and Unaided of Kongunadu Arts and Science College and Bodhi International Journal of Research in Humanities, Arts and Science has organized a Two Day International Conference on “Literature: Reflections of Society” on 27:03:2021 and 28:03:2021.

‘Litrostrum’, the English Literary Association organized a Special Online Lecture on its inaugural day. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Padmapriya  Baskaran, Founder of Aalayam Kanden Trust and Chief Executive-India at Sanitation First, UK, spoke on “Culture of Women as Evidenced by Inscriptions” on 19.03.2021.

The Department of English (Aided) donated blankets for the patients at the Covid Camp opened at Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore in May 2021. A total of 220 blankets were donated. Dr.R.Sumathi, Assistant Professor of English donated 120 blankets worth rs15,000/-. The other faculty members donated 70 blankets worth rs.7000 and PhD research scholars Ms.Megha and Mr.Murugan donated 20 and 10 blankets respectively.

An International Workshop on “Creative Writing” was organized on 16 June 2021 with the resource persons: Dr.Manali Desai, Netherlands; Dr.ImronWakhid Hartis, Indonesia; Dr.Abdul Mohammed Ali Jinnah, India.

A National level Faculty Development Programme on “MOOC Development for Learning Enhancement.” was organized on September 27,28 & 29 (2021). The resource persons were Dr.C.G.Shyamala,Mercy College, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate Department of English, Palakkad, and Dr,A.R.Bhavana, Associate Professor, Department of Educational Technology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.130.

A Five-day National level Workshop on “Learning Language and Literature through Tasks” was held from December 6-10 (2021) presided by the resource persons: Mr.R.David Karunakaran,,Reporter and Content Writer, Covai Mail,Coimbatore; Ms.Ashwathy Rajendran, Sports Scientist, Thiruvanandapuram; Ms.Megha, CEO, Cruizbyte Techlologies, Coimbatore, and Mr.S.Vidyananth, Director, Twister Solutions Pvt.Ltd., Coimbatore.

The Department of English (Aided) has organized a One Day International Conference on “English Language Literature and Culture: A Confluence” on 13th March 2020 under UGC Autonomy Grant.

An International Alumni Webinar Series was conducted on 08.06.2020 and 09.06.2020.

A National Level Webinar Series, “Literary Conclave” was conducted from 10.06.2020 to 12.06.2020.

Litrostrum along with Papyrus, and the Reading and Drama Club organized Online Intercollegiate Literary Competitions in the month of June 2020.

The Departments of English (Aided) & St.Thomas’ College, Thrissur, Kerala organized a collaborative Special International Expert Webinar on “Transgressive Illusions and Radical visions: Circus in Twentieth – Century Children’s Literature” on 31.07.2020. Dr. Kimberley Reynolds, Professor of Children’s Literature, Newcastle University, UK, leading expert in Children’s Literature was the resource person.

The Department of English (Aided) and Eco Club jointly organized a Special Expert Webinar on “Experiencing Nature” by Mrs. Zai Whitaker, Founder- Trustee, Madras Crocodile Bank and Centre for Herpetology, Mamallapuram on 28.08.2020.

The Department of English(Aided) and NDLI organized a Book Review Writing Contest in October 2020.

“Litrostrum”, the English Literary Association of the Department of English (Aided), in collaboration with ISKCON, Bangalore, organized a Special Talk by Shri Rama Sevaka Dasa, titled, “Setback to Comeback” on 10.11. 2020. The motivational lecture was aimed at developing healthy attitudes which would help faculty members, research scholars and students to attain or regain optimum mental health. The programme, which was conducted online, benefitted 240 participants.

Year: 2019

A  One -day International Level Workshop on New Directions in Theatre Techniques” was organized by the Department of English (Aided) on 9th January 2019. The Chief Trainers of the workshop were Dr. Terry Converse, Emeritus Professor, Washington State University and the Director of Phoenix World Theatre,Kochi and Mrs. Charu Narayanan, Artistic Director,The Delta Study, Fort Kochi.

Kongunadu Arts & Science College, together with Indica, Coimbatore hosted the launch of the bilingual book, Andal Thiruppavai on 19.01.2019.

Ten students of I and II year B.A.English Literature performed a street play on environmental issues as an outreach programme at NSS adopted village, Sri Dhanalakshmipuram near Vazhukkuparai on 13.03.2019. The same set of 10 students gave a repeat performance in a street near Vidya Vanam School (close to the Anaikatti Bus Stand) on 15.03.2019. They also performed for the children of Vidya Vanam School, Anaikatti.

A literary programme for the children of Vidya Vanam School, Anaikatti (a school for underprivileged, mostly tribal, children) was organised as an extension activity on 15.03.2019.

A Literary programme for the children of Ashraya Charitable Society was held on 21.03.2019. Twelve students belonging to I, II and II B.A. English Literature accompanied by Dr.K.Kaviyarasu, Assistant Professor of English visited Ashraya Charitable Society (home for orphaned children), Bommanampalayam, near Bharathiar University on 21.03.2019 in order to conduct a literary programme for the children there as an extension activity.

A training programme for women’s self-help group Vimuktha federation was held on 22.03.2019. 

Year 2018

  • DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (AIDED) conducted its Literary Association inaugural function “LITROSTRUM”, for the academic year 2018-19 on 11.07.2018. Dr.Sheba Fredric, Associate Professor of English & Dean of Academics (Rtd.), Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore, was the chief guest and rendered her valuable speech on “READING AND INSPIRATION: LITERARY PERSPECTIVE” that ultimately enriches one’s personality.
  • Department of English (Aided) organized a Special Lecture on “NEWSPAPERS: READ, BE INSPIRED AND WRITE BACK” at 2.00 pm on 23.07.2018 in the Seminar Hall. Mr. D. Rajkumar, General Manager KSL Media Limited (A Subsidiary of Kasturi & Sons Limited), The Hindu, Chennai, was the Speaker. 
  • A one-day National Level Conference on “Empowering Women: Addressed and Unaddressed woes in World Literature”, was organized by the Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, on 30.08.2018. 
  • The Literary Association of the Department of English (Aided) organized a Special Lecture on “English: Key to Unleash the World” at 10.30 am on 19.09.2018 in the Seminar Hall. Mr.Rajesh General Manager, RnD Soft, Coimbatore, was the speaker. 

The Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College conducted an Inter- Departmental Competitive Celebration “FLORINA” on 19.12.2018, around 200 students participated and Sri Krishna College of Arts and science won over all championship.A One-Day National Level Workshop on “EXPLORING LITERATURE: POETRY AND SOCIAL HISTORY OF ENGLAND” was organized by the Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, on 26.09.2018. Dr.Ramani, Head (Rtd) PSG College of Arts and Science and Dr. R.Santhakumari, Head (Rtd), Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College were the resource persons of the Workshop.

Year 2017

 

  • DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (AIDED) conducted its Literary Association inaugural function “LITROSTRUM”, for the academic year 2017-18 on 12.07.2017. Mr. V.Ganesan, Academic advisor, Sachidananda Jothi Niketan International School, Kallar, Mettupalayam was the chief guest .
  • A special lecture on “An Insight into Current Journalism” was organized by the DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (AIDED) on 05.09.2017. Mr.Sathyamoorthy Govindarajan, Former Senior Deputy Editor of The Hindu focused on the trends existing in modern journalism. 
  •  A One day National Level Conference on “English for Specific Careers: Mass Communication, Travel Media and Administration” was organized by the DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (AIDED) on 27.09.2017. The resource persons are Dr.Muhammadali, Dean, Faculty of Journalism, Department of Mass Communication, University of Calicut, Kerala, Dr. Manikandan Sunderesan, Chief Trainer in Psychology and Soft-Skills, Youth Corp Training Consultancy, Pollachi and Ms.Soma Basu, Deputy Editor, The Hindu, Madurai.
  • “Papyrus”, a club for reading and drama was inaugurated on 06.10.2017. Dr.P.Rajani, Reader in English (Rtd), Madras Christian College, Chennai and Mr. D.Ronald Hadrian, Writer, were the speakers of the function.
  • Students of III BA English (Aided) went to The Hindu’s printing facility on a one day press visit at Singanallur on 13.09.2017.

Year: 2016

The Department of English (Aided) organized a one-day UGC-CPE sponsored national level conference on “Recent trends in English Language Teaching” on 20th January 2016.

The Department of English (Aided) organized a UGC-CPE Sponsored One-Day National Level Workshop on Theatre and Theatricals on 18 March 2016.

The Indian Science Congress Association, Coimbatore Chapter sponsored a National Level Symposium on “Green Ecology for Environmental Security” was jointly organized by the Departments of Botany and English (Aided)of Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore within the College premises on 6th October 2016.

Year: 2015

The Department of English (Aided) conducted a One-Day National Level Workshop for PG students and research scholars on Research Methodology and Literary Criticismon 7th February 2015.
