On January 20, the PG and Research Department of Biotechnology successfully organized Academic Lecture Series – 12, focusing on the theme “Blue Biotechnology in Food and Drug Innovation.”. The program was conducted with the objective of exposing students and research scholars to emerging applications of marine biotechnology and its significance in modern food and pharmaceutical industries. The Chief Guest, Dr. T. Rajasekar, Assistant Professor (Research) at the Centre for Drug Discovery and Development, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. The session showcased the power of marine algae as a treasure trove of bioactive compounds driving innovation in medicine and industry. Seaweed-derived molecules with proven antimicrobial and anticancer potential were highlighted, along with cutting-edge applications of seaweed-based biopolymer films for wound healing and sustainable food packaging—combining safety, biodegradability, and extended shelf life in one eco-friendly solution.
